On March 13, Syracuse Shock girls 13-and-under (seventh and eighth grade) basketball team captured the Cortland YMCA Ballers & Shockers March Madness Tournament with a stellar 5-0 record. The Shock defeated the Cortland Lady Shockers in the championship game to win the title.
This is the Shock's third Tournament win in a row. In January and the first week in March, the Shock won their first two tournaments of the year in Cortland and Phoenix.
The Syracuse Shock team was formed last spring and has won five tournaments, one league and playoff championship to date. It was put together by coaches Tim Felasco and Brad Dufrane with players from several Central New York schools, including Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool.
Felasco and Dufrane's coaching philosophy is to teach the players fundamentals, develop team chemistry and instill good sportsmanship resulting in the team's overall success.
The Shock is scheduled to compete in four additional tournaments throughout New York State from April to June.
