At least the girls Bears were close, quite unlike the Chittenango boys team, whose early struggles continued last Tuesday in a 14-1 loss to Homer.
Only Deven Phelps' goal in the fourth quarter, off a feed from William Berry, prevented a shutout. The Trojans led 12-0 through three periods, as Adam Donner recorded nine saves. Connor Ferritto led Homer with four goals and one assist.
The Bears broke through with its first win of the season last Thursday night, going to overtime to beat Fulton 9-8.
They went back and forth in the first half, Chittenango squandering a 4-2 lead. Down 6-5 at the break, the Bears blanked the Red Raiders in the third period, only to again see its lead get away before it got the OT game-winner.
Luke Bicknell led the way, notching four goals and one assist. Alex Carter scored twice, while Phelps, Berry and Jacob Smith got the other goals. Donner again picked up nine saves. The Bears visit Cortland and East Syracuse-Minoa this week.
