The Town of Lysander Parks & Recreation Director Ann Smiley has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the New York State Recreation & Park Society, which is the most prestigious award that the organization presents.
"We are very proud of Ann for being recognized with this prestigious award and are fortunate to have such a professional managing the town's parks and recreation programs," said Lysander Supervisor Barry Bullis.
The award is given annually to a professional who has made outstanding contributions over a period of 10 years or more to the parks and recreation profession. Also noted, as part of the recognition, was Smiley's involvement in both the Central New York Recreation & Park Society and New York State Recreation & Park Society. Having been involved on numerous committees over many years, Smiley has also served in various board capacities and as president of both professional organizations.
This summer, Smiley will celebrate 20 years with the Town of Lysander. She previously worked 10 and a half years as parks director for the Town of Van Buren and, prior to moving to Central New York, she worked six years as a recreation specialist for the city of Troy.
On a personal level, she has been involved in both her children's sports and band/color guard activities in high school. She is an active member of the Rotary Club of Baldwinsville having served as president, secretary and a member at large and is very involved on the Seneca River Day Committee.
Smiley and her husband of 32 years, Jim, reside in the town of Lysander and have two children, Jennifer and Robbie.
