Manlius, Fayetteville fire study favors joint district

Consultant Ron Graner, of RFG Fire Rescue Consulting, recommends the Manlius and Fayetteville fire departments consolidate.

At a March 31 presentation, Graner gave an overview of his findings from a six-month fire study. His final recommendations, which include 91 points, 16 specific and 32 strategic recommendations, can be found in a 113-page report that was given for review to each of the five municipalities involved, including the villages of Minoa, Fayetteville and Manlius and the towns of Manlius and Pompey. The public will have access to the report soon after their initial review.

Graner said he studied in-depth the areas of administration, management, coordination and duplication of services among other categories to determine the outcome. He said there would be cost savings potential in both the long and short term, in the forms of purchase and service agreements as well as proper management. He stressed a joint fire district would be in the public's best interest.

The audience was comprised mostly of local public officials and fire members.

A second public meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday April 14 at Wellwood Middle School.
