F-M art students to display their work in Syracuse gallery

Fayetteville-Manlius School District eighth grade Studio in Art students at Wellwood Middle School will be displaying their work at the Orange Line Gallery through April 27.

The projects are part of a collection called, "The Memory Project, Portraits of Children from an Orphanage in Peru." Wellwood's Studio in Art students annually participate in The Memory Project, which engages art students from schools in the US, UK and Canada in creating realistic portraits for children around the world who have become orphans, been neglected or are disadvantaged

For this year's project, Wellwood students received photographs of orphaned children from Peru. The students created the portraits over several months using the photographs. After the exhibition, the portraits will be delivered to the children in Peru, and the Wellwood students will then receive a photograph of the individuals they drew holding the portraits.

There will be an opening reception 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday April 6, at the Orange Line Gallery, 106 Montgomery St., #2, Syracuse. It is free and open to the public.
