Each of Baldwinsville’s indoor track and field teams would earn high finishes during their second visit to Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena for Wednesday night’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational. In the event named in honor of B’ville’s long-time track coach, the boys Bees tied Jamesville-DeWitt for fifth place with 26 points. Liverpool, with 53 points, earned the top spot. Alec Peinkofer put a scare into Liverpool’s Zavon Watkins in a 1,000-meter duel where the B’ville junior finished in two minutes, 35.98 seconds, inches behind Watkins, who won in 2:35.64. Eight more points came from the mile run, where sophomore Josh Perez covered 1,600 meters in 4:36.95, while junior teammate Andy Fleming was fifth in 4:38.13. Marcellus’ Ryan Manahan won in a swift 4:21.47. Nate Wicks, Shay Sargeant, Joe Stanard and Dan Walker rose to third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:40.58 (Liverpool won in 1:37.68), while Peinkofer, Fleming, Matt Pond and Sean Marr needed 3:42.70 for fourth place in the 4×400 relay. Andrew Molinet had the only high finish in a field event, tying for eighth in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. Meanwhile, in the girls Arcaro meet B’ville picked up 20 points, leaving them in a tie for sixth place with Westhill/Bishop Ludden, with Jamesville-DeWitt (63.7 points) earning team honors. Senior Gina Carnovale nearly won the 200-meter dash, her time of 27.45 seconds beating everyone except Fowler’s Kamisha Tucker, who beat Carnovale by five-hundredths of a second. In the 4×200 relay, Carnovale, Stephanie Vasteno, Angelica Tomasello and Cierra Allen gained second place in 1:55.29 as Nottingham won in 1:53.32. Emily Soeder was fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet 10 inches. Mackenzie Ross took seventh (1:26.68) in the 500-meter run, just missing the points. B’ville heads back to SRC Arena next Wednesday for the Oscar Jensen Holiday Relays, its last event of 2011.
