A train derailment on the city’s southside has caused traffic delays.
The train cars came off the track near Moore Avenue and East Colvin Street. One of those trains includes a propane tank, the other is full of soy beans. Police have evacuated the area within 1,000 feet of the wreck, bringing at least 60 families to shelters, Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner said. Temporary shelter has been set up at the Westcott Community Center. Residents on Benedict and Berwyn Avenues have been evacuated. Those interested in looking for information about a relative can call 701-0303. Interstate 81 has been shut down northbound at Interstate-481 and southbound at Interstate-690.
