Three days after a disappointing defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse in a first-place CNY Counties League National division showdown, the Baldwinsville boys cross country team would recover with a victory at Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational. On the same Jamesville Beach Park course where the Section III championships will take place Nov. 5, the boys Bees won the Varsity 1 race. With 71 points, B’ville survived the high winds, rain and cold temperatures and held off Tully, who was second with 92 points. Alec Peinkofer would run to second place in 17 minutes, 2.9 seconds, beaten only by CBA’s Brendan Smith, who took the top spot in 16:47.9. Josh Perez led the rest of the Bees’ lineup, working his way to ninth place in 17:46.4. Matt Pond was 13th, in 18:00.8, while Pat Colligan (18:24.2) and Fleming (18:24.9) were 27th and 28th, respectively. Jack Martin took 30th place (18:27.2), with Casey McAllister 33rd (18:33.6) and Nate Wicks 40th in 18:48.3. B’ville’s girls side, without top runner Rachael Miller in the lineup, claimed third place in Varsity Race 1 at Jamesville Beach with 91 points, trailing only Canton (35 points) and Remsen (71 points). Hannah Olds finished 16th, in 21:41.9, leading her side as Emily Thompson got 20th place in 22:13.8 and Amanda McMahon was 21st in 22:21.1. Emily McComb was just behind them, in 24th place (22:42.0), while Rachel Dominic was 31st (23:07.1), ahead of a pack that included Kirby Socker (23:19.0), Lauren Hughes (23:23.1), Meghan Hull (23:24.1), Holly McMahon (23:24.6) and Mackenzie Ross (23:28.6), all within the top 40.
