In a busy but productive stretch, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team played three times in four days, winning on every occasion to improve its mark to 5-0. Of those matches, none proved tougher than last Tuesday’s encounter with Auburn. Every bit of effort was needed to subdue the Maroons in a 4-3 decision. As Kahlei Reisinger took a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Auburn star Claire Minnoe, Amari Pollard and Taylor Ferrari picked up the other singles points. Pollard beat Lauryn Husby 7-5, 6-1, while Ferrari had a similar match with Jenna Jarman and won 7-6, 6-2. Maddie Fiello and Colleen Morgan worked quickly in doubles, beating Jenna Bruno and Heidi VanBuskirk 6-2, 6-2, while Natalie Kot and Katherine Schumacher got a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jessica Bolak and Kaitlin Hiywa. Hannah Mautz and Alexandra Meanor dropped a long 6-1, 6-7, 12-10 match to Kayla Schoonmaker and Julia Wagner. Also, Shannon Hurley and Taylor Slink went to three sets before falling to Auryana Dechick and Erica Fedigan 7-5, 4-6, 7-5. The stretch began last Monday, when the Bees blanked Syracuse West 7-0 in the makeup of a Sept. 7 rain postponement. Kahlei Reisinger, Amari Pollard and Taylor Ferrari all won their singles matches without dropping a single game. In doubles, it proved much the same for B’ville as the teams of Maddie Fiello-Colleen Morgan, Shannon Hurley-Taylor Slink, Natalie Kot-Katherine Schumacher and Hannah Mautz-Alexandra Meanor lost a grand total of three games in eight victorious sets. B’ville got one more win on Saturday, this time at an invitational tournament in Cortland, where it outlasted Jamesville-DeWitt and Homer, plus the host Purple Tigers. Both Reisinger and Pollard won classic battles in their respective singles divisions. Reisinger took on J-D’s Kyrin Pollock and was on the brink of defeat before claiming the second-set tie-breaker and rallying to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Pollard also needed three sets, but held off J-D’s Rea Puka 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. In the first doubles final, Fiello and Morgan got into a long battle with J-D’s Natalie Anderson and Katie Cieplicki, coming back to win 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. Mautz and Meanor earned the title in fourth doubles, sweeping Taryn Heath and Angela Gizzi (Homer) 6-2, 6-2, while Kot and Slink lost the second doubles title match to J-D’s Elena Marchetti-Bowick and Hannah Stefl 6-4, 6-2.
