Never mind the conditions – the Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team’s group of distance runners can still dazzle. That was evident in Thursday’s Section III state qualifying meet at Cicero-North Syracuse, where chilly temperatures and fierce winds belied the early-June setting, but didn’t slow down the Hornets one bit as it broke its own year-old sectional record in the 4×400 relay. F-M’s team of Natalie Zazzara, Katie Sischo, Katie Muller and Heather Martin blazed to a time of three minutes, 57.31 seconds, which broke the old sectional mark (3:58.33) by more than a second. Martin, Sischo, Katie Brislin and Courtney Chapman were victorious in the 4×800 relay in 9:07.90, nearly a full minute ahead of any Division I (large school) opponent, including J-D, who was fifth in 10:28.68. This came on top of several other Hornet wins at the state qualifier.
