No adverse result could change the direct upward trajectory that the Baldwinsville boys lacrosse team took late in the 2011 season. So when the Bees fell, 14-4, to top seed West Genesee in the Section III Class A semifinal on Friday afternoon, it was a disappointment, but not a shattering one. They were supposed to play the day before, at Cicero-North Syracuse’s Bragman Stadium. But a series of weather delays cut short the first semifinal between Liverpool and Fayetteville-Manlius (the Warriors would win 14-5) and forced a postponement of the nightcap. The only drawback, from B’ville’s standpoint, was that the rescheduled game would take place in Camillus, so instead of a neutral site the Bees were playing on the road. Given the quality of WG’s roster, though, it may not have made too much of a difference. With its trademark man-to-man defense, the Wildcats held the Bees off the scoreboard until the second quarter, and at the break B’ville trailed 7-1. Little changed in the second half as the margin stretched out. Joe Delia did manage three assists, feeding it to his teammate as Billy Rumble, Nick Ciampi, Steve Petrelli and Casey Colligan earned the goals. Splitting time in goal, Parker Ferrigan and Tom Lefancheck had 17 total saves. WG’s Dylan Donahue led his side with six goals and two assists, the passes often coming from Corey Herrington, who had six assists. WG went on to beat Liverpool in a 7-6, triple-overtime epic for its 10th consecutive sectional title. Finishing at 9-8, B’ville might be poised, in 2012, to challenge that dynasty in Camillus if the likes of Ferrigan, Delia, Pat Colligan and Ben Paprocki return, even as a large number of seniors graduate.
