A split of its last two games of the regular season was what the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team would have to accept going into this week’s Section III Class A playoffs. At least the win came in an impressive effort against a familiar league opponent, as the Bees went to Bragman Stadium Thursday night and roared to a 14-5 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse. Having already topped the Northstars 18-8 back on May 2, B’ville played with patience and control on CNS’s hard artificial surface, working its way to a 6-2 halftime edge. The margin kept growing as Maggie Monnat, with five assists, led a well-balanced attack. Meghan Cuddy had three goals, while Claire Monnat, Sam Yaro and Katie Sullivan each found the net twice. Erin Ward, Ashley Gentile and Taylor Ventre joined Maggie Monnat with single tallies. B’ville welcomed the chance to deal with CNS after last Tuesday night’s rough trip west to face Section V power Brighton. The Bees lost to the Barons, 15-9, in a game where the Barons gained confidence throughout the contest, steadily getting away and converting against a surprised B’ville defense. No one on the Bees could establish herself on the offensive side, either, as only Claire Monnat found the net twice. Maggie Monnat, Ashley Gentile, Kennedy Frink, Alexis Czyz, Taylor Pastore, Katie Sullivan and Erika Wilcox scored, too, with Frink adding an assist and Laura Passamonte recording six saves. With the regular season done at 12-4, B’ville earned the no. 2 seed for the Class A tournament and a bye directly into Thursday’s semifinals at Solvay against no. 3 seed Liverpool or no. 6 seed Central Square. The final is May 31 at Liverpool.
