Both of Solvay’s track and field teams would prevail over Westhill in a head-to-head battle Wednesday afternoon, the boys Bearcats winning 81-60 and the girls pulling out a 75-66 decision over the Warriors. John Salvagno led Solvay in the boys meet with four titles. He cleared 5 feet 8 inches in the high jump, went 17 feet 10 inches in the long jump, ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.9 and had a top triple jump of 36 feet 2 inches. Nick Cometti helped the Bearcats by running the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 23.2 seconds. He also teamed with Matt Battaglia, Eric Goodrich and Jake Callisto to claim the 4×400 relay in 3:39.9. Goodrich, on his own, ran 800 meters in 2:07.5 as Cody McCarthy took the 3,200-meter run in 11:02.8. In the 4×800 relay, Goodrich, Battaglia, Nate Carr and Pete Cifratta prevailed in 8:58.5 as, in the 4×100, Battaglia, Callisto, Carmen Sarno and Matt Lauro completed the relay sweep in 48.4 seconds. Westhill countered with Corey Wilkinson throwing the discus 140 feet 2 inches and the shot put 39 feet 2 inches. Christian St. Amour took the 400-meter dash in 53.7 seconds as Jack Honis won the 110 high hurdles (15.8 seconds) and Mike Herholtz cleared 9 feet in the pole vault. For Solvay’s girls team, Abby Frateschi and Christina Clemente both won twice. Frateschi cleared 7 feet 6 inches in the pole vault and took the 200 in 29.5 seconds, while Clemente earned first place in the 100 (14.1 seconds) and ran the 400 in 1:03.7. In the 4×100, Clemente, Frateschi, Michelle Slowik and Anna Salvagno earned the title as Salvagno, on her own, prevailed in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.5. Clemente, Salvagno, Frateschi and Darien Brown were first in the 4×400 in 4:24.6. Kyndra Jackson won the shot put (28 feet 7 inches) and Courtney Napolitano took the high jump with a clearance of 4 feet 10 inches. As for Westhill, Erin Christensen claimed both the 1,500 (5:31.6) and 3,000 (12:15.8) meter runs along with Betsy Black’s 800-meter victory in 2:31.9. Black also helped the Warriors’ 4×800 team take first place in 10:37.9. Sam Peebles took the triple jump (31 feet 7 inches) and Brianna Hetfield had a top long jump of 14 feet 2 inches.
