Head-to-head with its main rival, the Marcellus track and field teams emerged from Wednesday’s meet with Skaneateles carrying a split. On the boys side, it was little contest, as the Mustangs routed the Lakers 99.5-43.5, but the Marcellus girls team had to settle for an 82-59 defeat. John Bell won multiple times for the Marcellus boys, needing 2:13.3 to prevail in the 800-meter run and covering the mile in 5:05.2. He also helped Joe Fallon, Jesse Garn and Ryan Manahan earn first place in the 4×800 relay in 9:12.2 as Manahan took the 3,200-meter run in 12:54.6. Going to the sprints, Mitch Schoenbrun took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.8 seconds, while Justin Garn claimed the 400-meter dash (54.4 seconds) and Mike Epp earned a victory in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.5. Of the five field events, Marcellus won four times. Nick Huss cleared 11 feet 6 inches in the pole vault, while Brian O’Connell took the high jump (5 feet 1 inch). Chaz Hayes uncorked a long jump of 19 feet 4 inches and Aaron Murphy threw the discus 90 feet 8 inches. Meanwhile, in the girls meet Skaneateles won most of the time, with only occasional Mustang interruptions. That included Rachel Garn taking the 1,500-meter run in 5:13.7 as she also helped Lizzy Dean, Maggie Dunn and Tori Stopen take the 4×800 relay in 10:24.8. Kathryn Busa gave the Mustangs a top time of 18.6 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, just as Abby Fallon took the 100 sprint in 13.9 seconds. Skaneateles built its margin through a sweep of field events, where Caroline Walton took the shot put and discus and Gabby Eckles did the same in the long jump and high jump. As this went on, Jordan-Elbridge and Westhill squared off, joined by Hannibal. In the boys meet, both sides lost to Hannibal, but head-to-head the Warriors edged the Eagles 72-68. For Westhill, Jack Honis won the 110 high hurdles (16.0 seconds) and 200 (24.2 seconds), while Christian St. Amour was first in the 100 (12.1 seconds) and 400 (52.0 seconds) sprints. Corey Wilkinson swept through the shot put (40 feet 11 1/2 inches) and discus (128 feet) as Tim Sheridan went 35 feet 9 1/2 inches in the triple jump and Mike Herholtz cleared 9 feet in the pole vault. J-E’s Greg Bader was the top individual, sweeping the distance races. Bader ran the mile in 4:48.5, took the 800 in 2:06.1 and tore to victory in the 3,200 in 10:24.5. Carlin Coomey chimed in with a top long jump of 17 feet 7 inches. In the girls meet, Westhill would also earn a narrow win over J-E, 71-69, and also top Hannibal 83-53 as the Eagles also got past Hannibal by a 70-56 margin. Westhill saw Jessica Curry cover 1,500 meters in 5:15 as Lissa DiPaola (400 meters) also prevailed and the Warriors won the 4×800 relay in 10:50. Sam Peebles had a top triple jump of 30 feet 8 inches as Brianna Hefield took the long jump (14 feet 1 inch) and Alyssa Zabel cleared 7 feet 6 inches in the pole vault. J-E countered with Brianna Byrnes, Rachel Scott, Rachel Betts and McKenzie Williams covering the 4×100 relay in 54.4 seconds. On their own, Scott took the 400 hurdles (1:12.7) and Byrnes won the 800 (2:33.6) as Phoebe Alley won the 3,000 (12:05) and Courtney Hourigan clearing 4 feet 8 inches in the high jump.
