Few members of the Jamesville-DeWitt track and field team rested during the spring break. Instead, they went to Tuesday’s Tully Spring Break Invitational and came close to sweeping the top spots. In the boys event, the Red Rams did prevail, claiming 93 points as Skaneateles (67 points) edged Westhill (66 points) for second place. Christian Brothers Academy was fifth with 52 points. J-D’s boys went 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles, where Will Sterriker prevailed in 1:03.46 and Eric Nuss was second in 1:05.61. Sterriker also was third in the 110 high hurdles in 16.83 seconds. Austin Davis got second in the 800-meter run in 2:07.75, with CBA’s Jared Sayles third in 2:12.28. In the 4×100 relay, J-D and CBA dueled. The Rams prevailed as Tameras Howard, Navale Taylor, Amani Jackson and Ira Griffin ran to a time of 44.83 seconds. Emmanuel Collins, Deshawn Salter, Gideon Dixon and Kevin Frasor helped the Brothers take second in 45.85 seconds. Jackson wasn’t done, giving J-D another title when he won the long jump, going 19 feet 1/2 inch as Curtis Walker was fifth. Zach Liebman cleared 10 feet for third place in the pole vault. Taylor, on his own, was fourth in the 200-meter dash. Ryan Peters took second in the shot put (40 feet 3 1/2 inches0, while Brian Roth was sixth. Koy Adams got fifth in the discus, throwing it 110 feet 11 inches. In the 1,600 sprint medley, where J-D was sixth, Brendan Smith, Nate Fornal and Jared Sayles joined Frasor as CBA took second in 3:56.82, just behind Marcellus, who won in 3:53.25. Led by Smith, who ran the mile in a top time of 4:30.39, CBA got second in the mile relay as Smith, Jack Lenkiewicz and David Carey finished in 14:52.41, with J-D third in 15:24.98. Will Brower was sixth in the 110 high hurdles and third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 6 inches in the latter. Collins sprinted to second in the 100-meter dash in 11.45 seconds, with Salter third in 11.79 seconds. Meanwhile, the J-D girls side had 71.5 points, topping everyone in the 24-team field except Cicero-North Syracuse, who won with 121 points. CBA tied for ninth with 22 points. Ally Fox, Taylor-Rae Danforth, Noelle Novakowski and Sierra Vasilou won the 4×100 relay in 53.19 seconds, topping CNS by nearly half a second. J-D also won the 4×400, where Danielle Doss, Maggie Fuller, Liz Pieri and Katy Pieri posted 4:20.24 to beat CNS by more than three seconds. Fuller, on her own, cleared 4 feet 10 inches and won the high jump, and Vasilou flew 16 feet 11 1/4 inches to beat the field in the long jump. Doss and Katy Pieri got fifth and sixth, respectively, in the pole vault as Vasiliou got second in the long jump with 31 feet 7 3/4 inches. Fox and Novakowski joined Rebecca Doss and Liz Pieri to get second place in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:34.34. In the 4×800, Doss, Amber Blom, Laura Wengert and Samantha Clemons got to third place in 11:16.72 as Bishop Grimes (11:11.98) eased into second place. Betty Etheredge gave CBA a win in the triple jump when she went 30 feet 1/2 inch, more than a foot ahead of VVS’s Alyssa Durant. Etheredge also was third in the long jump with 15 feet 4 1/4 inches. CBA did get third in the 1,500-meter relay, with Rachel Zajdel fifth among individuals in 5:10.42.
