Moving to the top of the OHSL Liberty division, the Solvay softball team had many things go right in Tuesday’s 13-4 victory over Jordan-Elbridge. At the plate, the Bearcats managed 10 hits and worked its way to a 5-2 lead before four-run rallies in the fifth and sixth innings put the game away. Tiffney Guinta walked four times, added a hit and scored four runs while gaining a pair of RBIs. Daniela Tartaro scored three runs and Shanen Sullivan crossed the plate twice. Chelsie Delperuto’s two hits led to three RBIs as Kristen DiBello drove in two runs. Nicole Groth and Julie Gardner managed one RBI apiece. Brenna Poli pitched four innings for the win, with Gardner going the other three innings as, together, they held J-E to five hits. The Eagles’ Ashley Foot had an RBI as Alexis Rouse, despite her pitching struggles, still managed 11 strikeouts. In baseball action, Solvay and J-E went to eight innings before the Bearcats finally emerged with an 11-8 victory over the Eagles. Down 2-0, Solvay had moved ahead with five runs in the top of the third. Still, that 6-2 lead didn’t hold, as J-E used three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to forge a 5-5 tie. It went into extra innings – and in the top of the eighth, Solvay rebounded with three runs to move ahead for good. John Savo, in relief of Ryan Bidwell, got the final three outs for the win. Not only did Bidwell pitch, he smacked three hits, including a home run, scored three times and finished with three RBIs. Chris Klein also had three hits and drove in two runs as Jaron Payne contributed three hits and an RBI. Ronn Bidwell and Joe Talone added RBIs of their own. Leland Holmes and Nick Berwind split J-E’s pitching duties. Sean Cooper gave the Eagles three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, while John Quinn and Pat Kelly also drove in runs. Liam Corfield also crossed the plate twice.
