Jamesville-DeWitt’s girls volleyball team, continuing its push in the second half of the regular season, earned back-to-back wins to improve to 8-4 on the season. First, the Red Rams beat Phoenix in four sets Tuesday night. J-D won the opener 25-18 and lost the second set 25-19, but took over in the last two sets, prevailing by comfortable 25-17 and 25-11 margins. Ally Loewy was quite versatile, earning 10 assists, 10 digs and seven kills. Michelle Dallalah added nine assists and Emily Parker earned 12 digs. Diane Casinella stepped up for seven kills of her own as Jenna Hayward had four kills. Two nights later, the Red Rams beat Fulton, also in a four-set encounter. After dominating the first set 25-15, J-D pulled out a 26-24 second set to give it cushion against the Red Raiders claiming the third set 25-15. A long fourth set followed, the Rams nearly pushed further, but still clinching the match 28-26. Loewy managed 13 kills and five aces, with Jess Butler stepping up for eight kills and Hayward adding seven kills. Taylor Bierwagen had five kills and three aces. Sonia Narfipur, with 14 assists, led a deep back line where Lena Winterman had eight assists and Dallalah seven assists. Christian Brothers Academy had a chance to catch Marcellus atop the OHSL Liberty division on Thursday night, but lost to the Mustangs in a four-set battle. Beaten in the first set 25-13, the Brothers appeared to gain control when, in the second set, it prevailed 25-19 and, better yet, top Mustangs setter Jenna Annable went out with a shoulder injury. Somehow, Marcellus recovered, handing CBA close defeats in the next two sets, 25-22 and 26-24, to pull out the match, getting 18 assists from Jess Cost and 13 assists from Traci Bingham in Annable’s absence. On CBA’s side, Kelly Bewley (13 assists) and Claire Gollegly (12 assists) split back-line duties, as Ivanka Temnycky and Kara Modliszewski each finished with seven kills. Alexis Koval contributed eight digs. Marcellus featured a powerful front line where Nicole Fletcher (14 kills, eight blocks) and Devin Landers (10 kills, five blocks) took charge. East Syracuse-Minoa played lat Tuesday, beating Fulton 25-15 in the first set, but losing the next three sets to the Red Raiders. It was 26-24 in the second set, then 25-22 in each of the next two sets. Unable to get any of the key late points, the Spartans saw Danielle Steigerwald pile up 15 kills, Laura Adams earn 14 kills and Charlotte Visser add 10 kills. Katilyn Shaughnessy fed all of them with 40 assists. Bishop Grimes fell in four sets to unbeaten Tully and also had a four-set loss to Onondaga Thursday night. Against the Tigers, Taylor Bourdon had eight kills, while Nicole Spiegel earned six aces and Nicole Houck had seven assists.
