"I was really honored to be able to come here and tell you myself," Mahoney said.

The conservation tour included two other Skaneateles operations

The bus tour component of the event, which included Wake Robin Farm in Elbridge, also toured Fesko's Dairy Farm and Discovery Farm Center in Spafford.

Chris and Rick Fesko co own and manage the largest dairy farm located entirely within the Skaneateles Watershed with 815 cows and 1800 acres of crops. Their daughter Kim Brayman and her husband Eric have joined the operation.

The tour took in a newly constructed silage leach ate collection system and mortality composting field. The farm implements their own conservation buffers around nearly every crop field, especially along stream corridors.

Next, they visited Chris' baby, "On the Farm Discovery Center," which is located on Wentworth Road near the Fesko Farm house. Chris, a born educator, teaches area youth hands on in this 100 year old barn about life on the farm for the many creatures including pigs, goats, chickens and horses. She said a teacher recently asked her when she was going to stop doing the Discovery Center? No one had ever asked her that before including herself, as farming is a way of life.

Chris is the award winning director and producer of the "On the Farm" video series, which is shot right there in Spafford on the Fesko's Farm. Fesko.com. The series is the next best thing to actually being on the farm.
