Skaneateles art scene: Ravens 'n' Autumn

Gallery 54 to feature four local artists this October:

Gallery 54 is an artist owned and operated gallery at 54 East Genesee St. in the heart of the village shopping district. It has been open just over a year, located in the former offices of Linda Roche Real Estate.

The space is ideal for showing artist's work as it is made up of several nooks with a room overlooking Skaneateles Lake.

The 14 artists that make up the gallery are all from CNY (Finger Lakes, too). There is a wide variety of fine art and fine crafts, including paintings, mosaics, stained glass, pottery, art quilts, jewelry, photography and fashion items.

As part of the Skaneateles Fall Festival, Gallery 54 will showcase four established artists throughout the month of October with an opening from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday Oct. 1. The artists are Dana Blythe Stenson, Lauren Sanzi Ritchie, Lisa Noviasky and Skaneateles' Terry Askey-Cole.

Artists' bios:

Dana Blythe Stenson, metalsmith, finds inspiration in natural and manmade forms. She enjoys designing and making jewelry that finds a new way to express a natural form or emphasizes the beauty of a stone.

Lauren Sanzi Ritchie has been a potter for 25 years. She creates stoneware lanterns that incorporate architectural elements in conflict and in harmony with their environment. Lauren's designs are influenced by Charles Rennie MacKintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright and Antonio Gaudi.

Lisa Noviasky, painter, has drawn and painted her whole life. Her work has been shown at Munson Proctor Williams Museum in Utica, The Limner Gallery in New York City and The Cooperstown National. Noviasky is a plein air (on location) painter and relies heavily on color and texture to convey the feeling of the scene.

Terry Askey-Cole, ceramist, brings her love of nature and the outdoors to all her ceramic creations. She specializes in hand built ceramic leaf plates and platters, mosaics, and sculpture. Her pieces are wonderful accents to any home or garden.

The gallery's hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information gallery54cny.com/685-5470.
