Skaneateles Fire Reports

Effective immediately, the residents of the Skaneateles Fire District need to dial 911 in case of an emergency! Do not dial the former "Fire line" (685-5222) since it has been forwarded to the Onondaga County Emergency 911 Center.

Since the Village of Skaneateles Board of Trustees has decided to close the Skaneateles

Communications Center, there will no longer be a local dispatcher stationed at the fire station to assist community members in their time of greatest need. Emergency responders will need to solely rely on the 911 center when it comes to the mitigation of emergency incidents within the Skaneateles Fire District.

The officers and members of the Skaneateles Fire Department would like to thank all of the present and former dispatchers of the Skaneateles Communications Center for their years of dedicated service to the Skaneateles Fire Department and the residents of the Skaneateles Fire District. You will be truly missed!

New siren cycles

To alleviate the concerns of a few residents, the Skaneateles Fire Department has installed a new siren control box to limit the "noise" produced when the members of the fire department are activated for an emergency call. When the members of the Skaneateles Fire Department are activated for an EMS call, the siren will cycle two times. For all other emergency alarms; including fire, rescue and water rescue calls, the siren will cycle six times.

August fire calls

For the month of August, the members of the Skaneateles Fire Department responded to a total of 27 calls bringing the yearly total to 212 calls.
