Four local cross country teams started to face each other within the OHSL Liberty division on a single Wednesday afternoon.
Westhill went head-to-head with Solvay in a three-way meet that also included CBA. The Warriors beat the Bearcats 18-40 on the girls side and 23-32 on the boys side - where Solvay turned around and beat the Brothers 28-31.
The Westhill girls lost to CBA 28-30 even though Jessica Curry, who won in a time of 18:54, and Betsy Black (19:26) went 1-2 among individuals. Lissa DiPaola was fifth in 20:34, but CBA grabbed the next four spots before Solvay's Ashlee Riggins crossed the line in 22:36.
Meanwhile, in the boys race, CBA got the top spots (Brendan Smith won in 16:33) before Solvay's Cody McCarthy took third place in a time of 17:20. Then Westhill teammates Casey Bunce (17:45) and Peter Lynch (17:48) went fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Bearcats' Nate Carr sneaked into sixth (17:51) before three more Warriors - Will Downs (17:53), Jon Moore (17:57) and Nathan Lamb (17:59) - swept the next spots, assuring Westhill of a boys sweep of the three-way meet.
Jordan-Elbridge visited its long-time rival, Skaneateles, and also faced Hannibal, sweeping the boys meet over the Lakers (16-45) and Warriors (25-30) as the girls Eagles beat Hannibal 19-44, but lost 16-47 to Skaneateles.
Sweeping the top three boys spots, the Eagles saw Steve Slonosky win in 17:17, with Greg Bader edging Jack Gugel for second, both finishing in 17:19. Hannibal seized five of the next six spots, only the Eagles' Tom Poppe, in ninth (18:02), breaking that mold. Skaneateles controlled the girls meet, though J-E's Phebe Alley finished fifth in 21:53.
Marcellus hosted Cazenovia in a head-to-head meet, rolling to a 20-43 victory on the boys side but seeing the girls Mustangs lose to the Lakers 24-33.
