Soccer Warriors blank J-E

Looking to climb up the OHSL Liberty division standings, the Westhill boys soccer team took on Jordan-Elbridge Wednesday night and rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Eagles.

Westhill had the ball most of the night, taking 18 shots to J-E's three, and spread its goals around as it lead 3-0 by halftime and kept on going.

Anthony Scaravillo and Conor Powell each finished with two goals and one assist, while Kyle Hunt earned a goal and two assists. Barak BenYehuda and Hunter White scored, too, as Jared Persons picked up two assists and Sean Sobotka got an assist, too.

Two days before facing J-E, the Warriors had a non-league game against Tully and had to make a big second-half comeback to pull out a 3-3 draw with the Black Knights.

Tully had stormed out to a 2-0 halftime edge, with Tom Lamson (two goals) and Obang Okor (one goal, two assists) leading the way.

Refusing to go away, Westhill countered with a big second half where Scaravillo, BenYehuda and Persons each had a goal, with Pat Wickersham and Conor Powell joining BenYehuda in the assist column. Ryan Boyle made 11 saves, including some key stops in overtime as neither side could win it.

Also on Wednesday, two other local sides had league matches and split them - Marcellus bashing Caenovia 6-1, Solvay falling to Skaneateles 8-1.

The Mustangs rode a career performance from Cal Filtch, most of it taking place in the second half after it seized an early 2-0 lead. All told, Filtch had four goals and one assist, the help coming from Zack Dillon and Chad Johnson's single tallies as Chris Manke got two assists and Keenan Vaughn got an assist, too.

Solvay, meanwhile, had little chance to keep up with the OHSL Liberty division-leading Lakers, though Nate Antonacci scored in the second half to prevent the shutout. David Matszuk earned the assist.

Kosta Sukhorukov, under constant attack all night, made 22 saves, but could not keep everything out as the Lakers' A.J. Richichi earned a three-goal hat trick and Alex Brownlee contributed two goals and two assists.
