J-D girls soccer flattens CBA, 8-0

All the while, J-D's defense played a starring role. Stephanie Mannion, Jenna Hayward, Taryn Dausman and Rene Keller took turns frustrating Koval and her front-line mates as McConnell clearly was missed.

Only once did it slip, as a foul inside the 18-yard box in the 61st minute allowed Koval to take a penalty kick - and even that shot went off the crossbar. Mere seconds later, the Rams went on the attack, and Tessa Devereaux drilled a 25-yard shot that found the top left corner of the net.

Then it got out of hand. Nuss returned in the 65th minute, blasting in her second goal, and seconds later it was Tessa Devereaux converting again on a rebound of Olivia Ferlenda's shot. And less than three minutes after that, Ferlenda converted off Emily Elbers' corner kick, and just for an exclamation point, Maire Prosak added a goal in the final minute.

Just before they took the field, the CBA boys soccer team met up with Fowler, and rode an early conversion to a 1-0 victory over the Falcons.

The Brothers got all the offense it needed when it lined up for a free kick nine minutes into the first half. Kris Triana's 25-yard shot bent around Fowler's wall and crashed into the right side of the net.

Instead of following that up, though, CBA slowed down the rest of the first half, unable to get many more scoring chances. The pace picked up early in the second half, yet the margin remained at one.

Fowler stayed patient, but only made sporadic runs into the Brothers' end. And it never had another close chance after CBA goalie David Anderson made tough stops on back-to-back shots midway through the second half.
