Skaneateles Town: August meeting briefs

- Youth football is using the lower fields in Austin Park (on Jordan Street) weekday evenings.

- Dave Newell reported from the Transfer Station:

-Lots of garbage, lots of recycling, lots of mowing.

- Animal control discussed lots of woodchucks and barking dogs, but didn't mention any foxes.

- Codes Enforcement: Debbie Williams requested the board to consider a permit with a fee for clear cutting. A $50 fee, similar to the above ground pool permit, was suggested. The town board said they needed to think about this.

- Town Supervisor Terri Roney said, "This is certificate of appreciation night." She read proclamations to town workers Beth O'Sullivan and David Alfreds. Matt Major and Sheila Card also had official thank yous for a job well done from the town, but were not present at the meeting.

Roney then proclaimed the town's appreciation to Bob Sykes for his volunteer work on the Town Conservation Land off Gully Road. Sykes used black locust to construct log crossings, timber boards and picnic tables. Roney then called upon Bob's wife, Marge Sykes, and thanked her for her patience with her husband spending so much time working on the town's conservation land. Marge was presented with a flowering plant as a thank you.

- Grace Chapel Public Hearing: Ron Hosie represented Grace Chapel and outlined the church's position in regard to acquiring 12.2 acres of the town's conservation land south of Route 20 (adjacent to Grace Chapel). He said they have been working on this for four years. The short story is that in 2005, Grace had a growth spurt, which created a need for more parking. People have been forced to park along Route 20, which is dangerous.

Grace Chapel would purchase 12.2 acres of the town's 80 acre Dunning property at a price of $87,000. It would also give the town an easement / right of way for the town to be able to gain access to the rest of its Dunning acreage.
