Barbara Smith of 727 Franklin St. is the fall winner of the Streetscape Award as chosen by co-chairs Jan Shadle and Carol Payntar of the Skaneateles Garden Club. A cheerful palette of colors was chosen by Smith to enliven the basic foundation planting that came with the house. Hugging the walkway are a assortment of perennials and annuals that help extend the bloom season at this time of year.
Other perennials brightened the path earlier in the year but are no longer taking a starring role.
Smith artfully combined moonbeam coreopsis, marigolds in a variety of colors, ruffled Japanese anemone, sedums, red begonias, and pink and white impatients with pumpkins and the greenery of holly, boxwood, Alberta spruce, and a dogwood tree. The elements of design- balance, scale, rhythm, proportion, and contrast are well demonstrated in the eye-catching garden.
