Excellus donates AED to Sheriff

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield donated seven automated external defibrillators to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office on Oct. 11. With this contribution, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has given a total of 20 AED units to sheriff's offices in its eight-county Central New York region since 2004.

The AED units are state-of-the-art Philips HeartStart FRx Defibrillators, which are fully automated and issue voice commands to coach users. They also walk users through the proper administration of CPR and include an infant/child key that allows the device to be used for children.

The units contributed by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will be placed in detective's cars and other service vehicles of the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office.
