Liverpool High School 12th grade principals Anthony Davis and David Perry recently announced that seniors Antoinette Esce, Shannon Flickinger, David Gay, Adam Rothenberg and Jennifer Street have been named commended students in the 56th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
The seniors are five out of approximately 34,000 students who received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise, according to the National Merit Scholarship Program Web site. Students taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test were eligible for this honor.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is a privately financed academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSATs and by meeting published entry/participation requirements.
