Lysander Parks and Recreation offers family Halloween activities

Walking program

A walking program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 21 to March 4 at Durgee Jr. High School. Come out and join others for a brisk walk in a safe indoors location during the winter months. Free and open to the public.

Horseback riding lessons

Interested in learning to ride a horse? Then this is the class for you. Learn basic horsemanship and care of a horse, as well as parts of equipment from 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays from Nov. 1 to 22 at Smoke tree farms on Plainville Road (you will need hard soled shoes with a heel). This class is for 7 year olds and up; adults are welcome.

Snowmobile safety course

This course, held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Baldwinsville Volunteer Fire Station, covers snowmobile safety, common emergencies, dangers, appropriate dress, common maintenance, snowmobile laws, trail markers and signage and hand signals. In order to legally operate a snowmobile on public lands, youth ages 10 to 13 must take a snowmobile safety course, obtain a safety certificate and be accompanied by a person over 18. (Bring a lunch for a short break.) FREE and limited to the first 30 people who pre-register with the Lysander Parks and Recreation Department.

Spin class

This fuor-week, high-energy class, held from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. Tuesdays from Nov. 2 to 23 at Riverside Fitness Center, will provide participants with a 500-calorie burn, cardiovascular benefits, shapely legs, companionship, mental stamina, increased energy and a low-impact workout. No matter the weather, spinners are guaranteed a great workout.

Baldwinsville youth wrestling

This five-week program, held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Nov. 10 through Dec. 15 at Baker High School, is for wrestlers who are looking to compete in tournaments or who may be wrestling modified this year. It is an advanced session - must have at least one year of wrestling or "BEE" serious about wrestling. This is a contact program, held in a safe and fun environment. Please note that this is also a co-ed program and girls may have to wrestle boys. Open to third through eighth graders.
