Alvarado selected to lead city schools medical services

Dr. Maritza Alvarado has been named the Director of Medical Services for the Syracuse City School District.

Alvarado is a graduate of Hunter College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. She is currently enrolled in the CNYMPH program at SUNY Upstate Medical University and

Syracuse University.

Alvarado has an extensive medical background having most recently served as the President/CEO of MAK Consultants and as a pediatrician with Summerwood Pediatrics. She has worked in pediatrics at St. Joseph's Hospital, Crouse Hospital, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Health Center East, SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse and Peninsula Institute for Community Health.

In addition to her background in medicine, Alvarado has served as the Executive Director of the Spanish Action League. She is actively involved in many community and professional organizations as well. She is currently a member of the National Hispanic Medical Association, Onondaga County Pediatric Society, and the Onondaga County Medical Society. She has also served on many boards including Home Aides of Central New York Inc., Women's Fund of Central New York, Near West Side Initiative, West Side Community School Initiative and the City of Syracuse Living Wage Commission.
