According to Ulatowski, the preliminary county budget, as presented to the Legislature, will have a severe impact on town taxpayers as the county tax on an average home would increase by $450.
"This is due to the redistribution of sales tax which was credited to the town before the county's levy was apportioned," Ulatowski said. "This is an unfortunate blow to the taxpayers in Clay, but we are still one of the most affordable towns in Onondaga County."
Out of 19 towns, Clay's tax charge per $100,000 home of $603 is the fourth least expensive behind only Fabius, Elbridge and Salina.
"There are some things that are out of our control," Ulatowski said.
Over the next few weeks, the board will review the budget during a series of workshops.
