WCNY is one of ten PBS partner stations participating in BLUEPRINT AMERICA's "Livable Future: Local Solutions" project, reporting on local, state and federal efforts to use transportation and transportation policy to create more equitable, convenient, greener, cleaner and healthier communities.
For nearly two years, BLUEPRINT AMERICA, a production of WNET.ORG, has focused on the critical issues surrounding the future of the nation's infrastructure.
"We are excited to participate in the Blueprint America project," said Robert J. Daino, President and Chief Executive Officer of WCNY-TV/FM. "WCNY's "Central Issues" is constantly bringing the Central New York community issues that matter most to them, and the problems surrounding I-81 are of particular importance to our viewers."
With the help of the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council (SMTC), New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), and other community organizations, WCNY will air a three-part "Central Issues" special called Blueprint:The Rt. 81 Corridor to discuss the problems and issues with I-81. Over the course of three episodes, the "Central Issues" special will look at the history of the construction of the road and the community it destroyed, the timeline and plans for community engagement through the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council, and look at the available options and what other communities have done. Host George Kilpatrick will also take a walking tour with NYSDOT engineers.
Blueprint: The Rt. 81 Corridor will air October 4 - 6 at 6:30 p.m. each night on WCNY 24.1.
