Happy Thanksgiving from the Manlius mayor

The celebration of Thanksgiving Day is a distinct American tradition. We come together to spend time with family, to catch up with our friends and to share a home-cooked turkey dinner with each other.

Yet in a year filled with continued economic difficulties and uncertainties, let us not forget that sharing our many blessings is at the heart of Thanksgiving and at the core of our village spirit.

Every generation of Manlius village residents has not only benefited from the generosity, talents, efforts, contributions and service of their neighbors every day, but especially during challenging times. Every day our lives are enriched and blessed by our choice to call Manlius home.

Each of us is a member of a larger village family and by working together there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Since 1813, history has proven that Manlius' greatest achievements are those we have accomplished by working together. For nearly 200 years, this amazing spirit has bound us together with the belief that we rise and fall as one village, one voice and one heart. The village of Manlius enables us to be the best we can be, not just for ourselves, but for each other.

So, as we gather around the table to celebrate with grateful hearts, let us give thanks to God and renew our bonds with one another. Each of us can be a source of blessing to those we encounter this Thanksgiving Day and every day through out the year by helping our neighbor and by serving our village.

Let us offer a prayer of thanksgiving for all the brave men and women of our Armed Forces whose sacrifice and service guarantee the freedoms we all hold so dear, and let us also keep in our thoughts and prayers the many families marking this Thanksgiving with an empty seat.

God bless the village of Manlius, and from my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!
