Updated local election results for Central New York

The following election results are unofficial unless and until otherwise noted:

US Congress 25th District

Onondaga County voters have chosen to keep incumbent Democrat Congressman Dan Maffei in the 25th district US congressional seat, though complete results from the entire district are not yet available.

"There's no question that this is bittersweet," Maffei said Tuesday night. "Clearly, this race is closer than we wanted it to be. And clearly, it's been a difficult night in the country. But, I'm absolutely confident that when all the votes are counted, I will be your next Congressman."

At midday Wednesday, Maffei had a lead over Republican opponent Ann Marie Buerkle 89,744 to 84,165 based on unofficial results in Cayuga, Monroe and Onondaga counties.

The 25th district includes all of Onondaga and Wayne counties and parts of Cayuga and Monroe counties. Complete results from Cayuga and Wayne counties will be updated as they become available.

Buerkle did not speak Tuesday night at the Onondaga County Republican rally, but Onondaga County Republican Committe Chair Tom Dadey maintained hope for the challenger.

NY State Senate 49th District

In Onondaga County, voters chose Democrat David Valesky to keep his 49th state senate seat, over challenger Andrew Russo (R), 26,303 to 19,445.

The 49th senate district includes all of Madison County and parts of Cayuga, Oneida and Onondaga counties, including part of the city of Syracuse.

Results from Madison County show Russo taking the lead over Valesky, with 10,187 to 9,224 votes.

Results from the rest of the district are not available at this time, but Onondaga County Republican Committee Chair Tom Dadey said around midnight tonight that it didn't look like Russo would be able to pull a victory in the race.

NY State Senate 49th District

Nine-term incumbent State Senator John DeFrancisco (R) will serve a 10th term, voters decided tonight.
