Ventre attempted to convince Saya that the town didn't have enough evident to bring disciplinary action, to which Saya responded that no one who has seen the problems would come forth because of possible repercussions from their union.
"We all know what happened to me," said Saya, referring to a rocky renegotiation process he led with the highway department's labor union. "And now they're all afraid to come in here."
After a half-hour long debate that included spats among Saya, Gunnip, Ventre, and Nicotra, Del Vecchio made a motion to hold an official review of the department and Saya vowed to be back at the next board meeting in two weeks to speak again.
Later in the evening, the board quickly approved a series of motions. First, they approved a temporary road closure blocking parts of Roxboro Road and Bernard Street for the St. Margaret's "Summerfest" on June 6.
Next the board approved the installation of four new fire hydrants for Salina Senior Apartments, and ratified a contract with D.M. Louer Painting and Restoration for $6,800 to paint Duerr Park pool.
The next town board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday June 14 at Salina Town Hall.
