Sheriff's Deputy Crashes into Unlicensed Driver

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that Sheriff's Deputy responding to a call crashed into an unlicensed driver.

At approximately 4:15 pm, Sheriff's Deputy Joseph Bill was involved in a two car accident while responding to

crime in progress call at the Sunoco gas station, located at 1825 Teall Avenue. Deputy Bill was traveling east on

Court Street with his emergency lights and siren on when he approached a 2005 Ford Explorer also eastbound

on Court Street.

Deputy Bill's marked patrol car crashed into the driver's side of the Explorer, operated by Nancy Grant (44), of

3728 Warners Road, as she began making a left hand turn into Assumption Cemetery as Deputy Bill attempted

to pass her on the right.

Grant and front seat passenger Lucy Cook (93), sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to

Community General Hospital for evaluation. Grants back seat passengers Edward Noce, Sr. (60) and Edward

Madden (71) were not injured. Deputy Bill also sustained minor injuries and was driven to University Hospital

for treatment.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Grant was issued a ticket for aggravated unlicensed operation

of a motor vehicle in the 3rd degree.
