North Syracuse man commended for act of bravery

During the May 13 village of North Syracuse Board meeting, resident Scott Mitton was recognized for helping a fellow community member in need. North Syracuse Mayor Diane Browning read a commendation during the meeting.

At approximately 8 a.m. Saturday May 1, village resident Calvin Pratt suffered a spell because of medical condition. However, as this occurred near South Bay Road and Trolley Barn Lane, Mitton noticed Pratt's distress and erratic driving.

Mitton attempted to halt Pratt's vehicle and see if he could be of assistance. Pratt was in Mitton's care until North Syracuse Police Officer Michael Quill, emergency medical service personnel of NAVAC and the North Syracuse Fire Department arrived on scene. Pratt was then taken to the hospital.

"Whereas, self-sacrificing individuals mobilized to help others can stem the tide of other problems that afflict society," said Browning, reading the village commendation.

Within the commendation, Browning asked that other village residents recognize Mitton's selfless act of bravery.

Mitton was then presented with the seal of the village.
