The farmer's market formerly located at Loguen Park is moving to the Westcott Community Center. It will open Wednesday, June 9 from 2 to 7 p.m. (the corner of Euclid and Westcott).
The decision was based on evaluating locations in the neighborhood including the parking lot near the pool in Thorndon Park, as members of the Thorndon Park Assocation were interested in hosting the market. The original site at Loguen Park had parking and traffic issues.
Kate Auwaerter, who volunteers with this farmer's market, reported that the final decision was made to relocate to the WCC based on visibility, traffic (vehicular and pedestrian) and administrative/management support at the center as the market is an all volunteer operation.
Some Westcott residents expressed concerns that moving the market to the other side of the nation would preclude residents on the eastside from joining in -- they also felt that parking would not be an issue in Thorndon Park.
The main limitation at WCC is parking, but the committee is hoping the added benefits will make the lack of parking more palatable.
