The Central New York Teaching Center has awarded three teachers in the Baldwinsville Central School District with Instructional Initiatives through its competitive Professional Development Initiatives program. Teachers will use the awarded funds to implement initiatives in their classrooms in the 2010-11 school year to meet the educational needs of their students.
Jessica Voigt, an art teacher at Baker High School, was awarded $500 to share the art and culture of Bali with students in her drawing and painting classes. Students will learn how to create paintings using traditional Balinese methods.
Danielle Nahorney and Heather Kowalski, fourth-grade teachers at Palmer Elementary School, were jointly awarded $750 to purchase mentor texts that coincide with the Units of Study for Primary Writing program that the district's elementary school teachers are using. Their goal is to improve student writing.
