The Hiawatha Lake Fishing Derby will be held at Onondaga Park on Saturday, May 15.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., and fishing will conclude at 11:45 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony. Prizes will be given for the three largest fish caught by participants in three age groups: up to age 8; 9 to 12 and 13 to 16.
A trophy will also be presented to the participant catching the smallest fish.
Participants must bring their own bait, tackle and pole. Fish must be caught by a registered entrant on Derby day between 8 and 11:45 a.m. Boats and wading are not permitted. All fish must be measured by a Derby official in order to qualify for prizes. Entries will be accepted until 11:45 a.m.
The Hiawatha Lake Fishing Derby is sponsored by the City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Programs, with additional support from the Anglers Association of Onondaga and media support from 93Q.
