Liverpool lacrosse teams both split

Even with its 6-1 record, the Liverpool boys lacrosse team has faced mighty struggles whenever it had to go into deeper waters.

Such was the case again last Tuesday night at Solvay's Earl Hadley Stadium as the Warriors took an 18-6 loss to Fayetteville-Manlius.

Before Liverpool could even get on the board in the second quarter, F-M had a big lead, thanks to a 6-0 start that would set the tone for the rest of the chilly evening.

Devin Clegg and Matt DiMarco would recover enough to get two goals apiece, while Matt Savlov and Mike Mahardy also scored. Austin Hope and Chris Spencer earned assists.

Yet even with Jamie Campagna recording 16 saves, the Warriors could not contain a potent F-M attack where Matt Klepper poured in six goals and Mike O'Neil contributed three goals.

The Warriors would bash Nottingham 22-2 on Friday night at Solvay, roaring out to a 15-2 lead by halftime as everyone on the roster saw playing time.

Savlov finished with five goals and four assists, while DiMarco and Joe Corapi both picked up three goals and one assist. Spencer, Logan Thomas and Ethan VanMarter each scored twice as Nick Kline got a goal and three assists.

Clegg, Hope, Pat Brosnan and Kyle DeAngelis matched each other with one goal and one assist.

Over on the girls side, Liverpool went to F-M last Tuesday and fell to the Hornets 17-6, nearly the exact same score as the boys game.

Much of it was decided early, as the Hornets used a torrent of offense to sprint out to a 13-2 lead, leaving the rest of the game a formality.

Kathleen Conese, in defeat, led Liverpool with three goals as Nina Tassone, Anna Daucher and Allison Flood also scored. Tess Tracy had 12 saves. Six different F-M players had multiple goals as Taylor Robinson (three assists), Mollie Caputo, Marilyn Farrell and Kelly Perry earned three-goal hat tricks.
