Red Cross babysitting class

This course, which includes planning for a babysitting job, knowing what to expect of children, selecting toys and games, supervising children, preventing accidents, giving first aid, rescue breathing, caring for infants and children and feeding them, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday April 21 at the Lysander Town Hall. Students who complete the course will receive a resource book full of pertinent information, as well as a certificate of completion. Students should bring a lunch and must be 11 years old before the program starts.

Boating safety course

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Course, held from 9 to 5 p.m. Saturday April 10 at the Lysander Town Hall, is a one day training focusing on the importance of safety on the water. This course will require all participants to pass an exam to receive their certification. There will also be a free boat inspection from noon to 1 p.m. You will need your boat registration to perform inspection.

Culinary club for tweens

Calling all junior chefs interested in learning how to plan, prepare and cook homemade meals. Held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. (ages 9 to 12 years old) and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (ages 13 to 15 years old) Saturdays April 10, May 8, 22 and June 5 at Durgee Jr. High (room 148), each class will show how to make something different. These four classes are all together for the one fee with a different lesson each time. All supplies will be provided at each lesson.

Beginner Karate

This course covers the fundamentals of Karate, while also preparing participants for further study. Training will aid concentration, improve the cardiovascular system, increase coordination, develop muscle tone, teach discipline and encourage over-all mental and physical conditioning. In addition to effective self-defense, students will learn important concepts such as discipline, courtesy, integrity, respect and self-control. Classes include a mix of focused games and serious training to build confidence and self-esteem. Parents are encouraged to join their child and learn together. Goju Ryu will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays from 5 April 28 to June 9 at Palmer School for ages 6 through adult. Tae Kwon Do will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Fridays from May 7 to June 11 at Palmer School for ages 6 through adult.
