The Salina Town Board called an emergency meeting at 6 p.m. Monday March 15 at the site of Northwood and East Molloy Road because of a needed emergency sewer repair.
The town had announced that Molloy Road from Route 11 to Townline Road has been reduced to one lane beginning Friday March 12. However, a routine operation on the sewer repairs last week revealed a sinkhole that required immediate attention, according to Mark Nicotra, Salina Town Supervisor.
Nicotra said the soil was "very loose and sandy," and that added safety precautions needed to be taken so that water could be detained from the area.
"We fixed a few problems, but a few more came up," he said about the town's sewer repairs.
If no further issues occur, Nicotra said the project and repairs should be completed by Thursday March 18.
Drivers are advised to use Malden Road or Factory Avenue as an alternate route during this period.
