Laura Carpenter named LHS Senior of the Week

Senior of the Week

This week's Liverpool High School Senior of the Week, Laura Carpenter, is a long-time musician.

Carpenter is a National Honor Society student, and a member of the LHS Symphonic Band and Symphonic Orchestra. She is also a member of the Photography Club.

Outside of school, Carpenter is involved with the Syracuse Symphony Youth Orchestra, Resonate and 252. Her instrumental expertise is both the piano and oboe.

Carpenter has won many awards for academic and musical performance. Among her honors, are the National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Scholar, two-time member of the NYS All-State Wind Ensemble, LHS Student of the Month and various awards for academic pursuits.

While at LHS, Carpenter has come to enjoy all her classes and said she could not name a single favorite because she enjoys each of them greatly.

When she isn't making music, Carpenter volunteers at her church with young children and with the Liverpool Elementary and LHS Bug Buddies Program. She also enjoys photography, painting and traveling.

Although she is undecided on her plans for a future career, Carpenter said she would like to work with children in some capacity.

The biggest influence in her life has come form her older sister, Shannon.

"She has taught me how to not take life too seriously and how to laugh at myself," Carpenter said.
