Baldwinsville native Kelly Doane returns home with his new comedy show KD the Comic presents.
Held at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at the Sushi Club at Mohegan Manor (58 Oswego St. in Baldwinsville), the show features anywhere between two and five performers an evening providing a great opportunity to see all kinds of talent.
"I try to have a laid back show with the comics and crowd," KD said. "Picture friends and family in a beautiful club just yucking it up with one another -- that's the feel I like. But I also like to treat it as if it was a Comedy central special as well."
Described as a "live, stand up comedy show by the mind of KD the COMIC," the show offers regional, undiscovered talent and a chance for "wannabe stars" to try stand up.
"Have you ever been told your funny? You should try it - this is your chance," KD said.
Each show seats up to 90 people and lasts approximately an hour and a half.
"If it's a good crowd, and all is well, we tend to let it linger on a bit," KD said.
And with an audience spanning mid 20s to upper 60s, it creates an atmosphere easy for all to enjoy.
As producer, promoter, host and headliner, KD said his biggest challenge is booking and promoting the shows.
"In this economy everyone is hesitant to go out, but all you have to do is buy a few drinks and enjoy a free comedy show. You can't find that anywhere in Central New York," he said. "It's a great way to split up the work week."
Experienced or not, KD encourages budding comics, as well as those simply interested in the experience, to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the club on a Wednesday night to chat with him.
"We need you," he said. "Come on out and give yourself a chance to say I tried that."
In addition to the Mohegan Manor performances, KD will also begin performing a free show Fridays this month at Steak and Lube on Walters Road. For a peek at one of KD's performances, visit myspace.com/kdthecomic. For more information about Mohegan Manor, visit moheganmanor.com.
