After several months investigating a residential burglary in which 12 handguns were stolen, DeWitt Police have made an arrest.
John D. Frateschi, 62, of 5816 Stonegate Heights Drive, Apt. 1, was charged March 4 -- after interviews with the DeWitt and Syracuse police departments -- with three felonies including burglary in the second degree, grand larceny in the third degree and grand larceny in the fourth degree.
On Oct. 30, the owner of a residence located on Wedgewood Terrace in DeWitt reported his gun safe containing 12 handguns were missing. Fortunately, the handguns were not loaded nor was ammunition taken. Since the time of the burglary, five of the handguns were recovered.
Frateschi is also charged by the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office with attempted robbery that occurred in the parking lot of the Fayetteville Towne Center on Dec. 16.
DeWitt Police are investigating an attempted robbery that also occurred on Dec. 16 in the parking lot of Shoppingtown Mall. Anyone that may have information or recognizes the suspect is asked to call the DeWitt Police at 449-3640.
Frateschi was held on $200,000 cash/bond bail and is scheduled to reappear in the town of DeWitt Court March 8.
