Network Your Way to Success
Chestnut Hill Middle School students viewed several presentations from area professionals who shared their expertise in a variety of career fields beginning at 7:53 a.m. Friday March 5. The event was held at the middle school, 204 Salson Park Dr., Liverpool.
Students learned about several career paths, including journalism and communications. The first of four student workshops viewed a Web posting demonstrated by Star-Review Editor Farah Jadran Pike.
After the Web presentation, Pike shared the weekly routine she uses to prepare the newspaper. Pike covers the villages of Liverpool and North Syracuse, Mattydale, Brewerton, and the towns of Salina, Clay and Cicero. Daily coverage is posted online at cnylink.com with stories reporting local government news and community events.
Pike is also editor of the Clay Insider, a monthly publication produced by Eagle Newspapers and Community Media Group, LLC.
As editor, she is responsible for reporting, writing news and feature stories, editing submitted content, taking photographs to support editorial content and laying out each week's Star-Review in Adobe InDesign.
Students were invited to ask questions about an editor's position and what kind of education a student should pursue in order to enter the field of journalism or communications.
The morning workshops ran until approximately 11 a.m.
