The Liverpool High School Music Department will present its 13th annual Jumpin' Jazz Jam at 7:30 p.m. Thursday March 18 in the Liverpool High School Auditorium.
Special guest performer that evening will be jazz vocalist Jane Monheit. The Jumpin' Jazz Jam also will feature the LHS Stage Band and the LHS Jazz Ensemble.
Monheit's latest album, The Lovers, The Dreamers and Me, was released to widespread critical acclaim in January 2009, and has been featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, USA Today and many others. The album, produced by jazz veteran Matt Pierson, is an ode to songwriters past and present that Monheit greatly admires.
Monheit released her debut album, Never Never Land, in 2000. It remained on the Billboard Jazz chart for more than a year and was voted Best Debut Recording by the members of the Jazz Journalists Association. Her second release, "Come Dream with Me," came just a year later and landed atop the Billboard Jazz charts. It also earned a Grammy nomination for Vince Mendoza for "Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocals" which he also did for In the Sun in 2003 for arrangement of "Since You've Asked".
Monheit's 2007 critically-lauded CD, Surrender, debuted at number one on the Billboard Jazz chart as well, and she continues to tour and perform in front of sold-out audiences worldwide.
Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Call 453-1500, ext. 4326 for more information.
