With the hope to attract more than 1,500 guests to tour homes and admire floral arrangements, "A Summer Place" publicity co-chairs Joan Thomsen and Rosalind Schwartz are encouraging interested visitors to purchase their tickets early.
Tickets purchased by June 18 are $20; the cost increases to $25 as of June 19. Tickets will be good for both days of the show -- June 25 and 26.
According to Schwartz, the presale tickets will give those organizing the event a better idea of how many people are attending. It also allows guests to pick up their tickets without waiting in line.
"Plus, they're getting a better deal," Thomsen said.
Advance sale tickets will be reserved for pick-up at St. James Episcopal Church.
As visitors tour each of the six homes in the village of Skaneateles, a hostess will check off the home visited on the ticket.
"If they don't do it all in one day, they can come back," Schwartz said.
On the second day of the tour, visitors are welcome to return and tour the homes that remain unchecked. However, the system means each home can be toured only once.
Horticulture and special exhibits at St. James Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church, both on East Genesee Street, can be revisited as tickets will not be marked at those locations.
"People may want to bring their families to the educational aspects," Thomsen said.
There will be exhibits about the teasel and its history of use in Skaneateles as well as Eurasian watermilfoil and its environmental impacts among other educational exhibits.
According to Thomsen, there is an open entry for the horticulture exhibits that the public is invited to participate in. For additional information, contact Nancy Easter at 685-3869.
Guests are also encouraged to walk the village rather than driving from one location to the other.
"Walking between the homes is encouraged because of limited parking in the business district and along Genesee Street," Schwartz said.
Many of the locations are within short walking distance to the shopping and business areas. Off-site parking is advised and signage will be visible.
To purchase advance tickets, send a check to "A Summer Place," PO Box 96, Skaneateles NY 13152.
Tickets will be available for sale both days of the event. All proceeds will go to benefit local projects.
