The Market will locate in Clinton Square on opening day while Onondaga County completes environmental improvements on the Market 's regular site that will reduce storm water runoff and create a greener infrastructure.
At the temporary Clinton Square site, the Downtown Farmers Market will operate as usual from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thirty-five vendors, including area farmers and produce dealers will set up shop on West Water Street in Clinton Square. Special opening day activities include a free performance by country band Southern Comfort from noon to 2 p.m.
As the growing season continues, up to 46 of the region 's best farmers and produce vendors will provide the freshest produce available.
"In its 35th year, the Downtown Farmers Market has always operated with a commitment to the environment by promoting locally-grown food, supporting family farm operations, and encouraging organic farming, said Chuck McFadden, market director. "Of the participating market vendors, approximately 80 percent are local growers, three are certified organic vendors, and six are no-pesticide vendors.
