GBAC holds annual banquet

The Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps (GBAC) recently celebrated it 48th year at an installation banquet held at Lakeside Recreational Hall. More than 60 people, including several community guests attended. GBAC Life members along with neighboring fire and ambulance corps representatives were also present for the evening.

Rick Gary, local radio and TV personality as well as member of the NYS Broadcaster Hall of Fame, was the evening's master of ceremonies. Gary joked about the emergency medical services profession and introduced special guests.

Among the various awards given out were hour and years pins. Jim Hogan and Skip Sochia received pins for riding 300 hours this past year and 400 hours pins were given to Harry Dashnau, Anne-Marie Howell, Joe Milliman and Mark Procopio. Pins were also given out for the number of years members have been at GBAC including five years for Damen Morrell, Mark Procopio and Sue Welch; 10 years to Matt Cheevers; 15 years to Tom Parquette and an amazing 40 years to Bernie Stolusky.

GBAC President Nancy Weber presented special president's awards to Anne Haresky and Bernie Stolusky for setting a record for riding on the same shift for more than 30 years and to administrative assistant Rosemary Coyne in appreciation of her work.

Director Dave Weller and Assistant Director Bob Sweet presented operational appreciation awards to GBAC members Tom Bard, Anne Haresky, Jim Hogan, Anne-Marie Howell, Pat Moses and Bob Sweet. Matt Cheevers, GBAC Operations Manager then presented Shawn Cathcart with the paid staff member of the year award.

Additionally, members Jamie Bagozzi and Anne-Marie Howell were recognized and added to GBAC's life membership list. Each has been a member for more than 10 years and has served on the GBAC executive board.

A special Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dave Weller, GBAC director of operations. Weller was credited for more than 28 years of service to GBAC, several times serving on the executive board. Tony Testa was also recognized as Volunteer of the Year for 2009. He is the current treasurer of GBAC.
